Barely Legal! Stars Sizzle at Cannes Despite Red Carpet Crackdown

CANNES—Oh là là! The Cannes Film Festival may have rolled out its most prudish dress code yet, but that didn’t stop Hollywood royalty and global glamazons from serving up maximum drama—and minimum fabric—on the iconic red carpet.

Festival organizers had issued a stern warning in advance, declaring, “For reasons of decency, nudity is prohibited,” and banning any "voluminous garments" that might trip up VIPs or clog the aisles of the Grand Théâtre Lumière. In other words: No nudity, no trains, no fun. Right?

Wrong!

While the rulebook may have tightened, the couture certainly didn’t. The stars—glorious rebels that they are—showed up draped in defiance, glitter, and just enough fabric to keep security from fainting.

Enter supermodel Heidi Klum, 51 and utterly ageless, who practically invented the phrase “show-stopper.” With a neckline that left little to the imagination and a train that might’ve required its own boarding pass, Klum lit up the Croisette like a Fourth of July sparkler.

Meanwhile, jury member and style icon Halle Berry (58) did follow the rules... begrudgingly. Scrapping her original dress (reportedly featuring a glorious three-foot train), Berry pivoted to a sleek black-and-white striped gown—chic, sharp, and definitely theater-seating-approved.

But it was Pom Klementieff who nearly derailed the dress code altogether. The French actress floated in wearing a lilac gown with a neckline so deep it probably had its own zip code. Tom Cruise, ever the gentleman (and maybe a little spellbound), was reportedly seen murmuring “Vive la France” under his breath.

Not to be outdone, Ted Lasso queen Hannah Waddingham, 50, served old-school glam in a blush strapless number that gave classic Grace Kelly—but with a dash of modern sass.

As the 78th Cannes Film Festival rolls on, one thing’s crystal clear: rules may be rules, but style will always find a loophole. And on the red carpet? Skin is still in.
