In the metropolis of Detroit, a killer randomly shot three people. The police launched a large-scale manhunt for him - and caught him after information from the population.
Detroit Police Chief James White said the suspect fired multiple shots at two women and a man in different parts of the city early Sunday morning. A man then observed the shooter peering into cars.
The police chief said investigators don't believe there was a connection between the victims. One of the people was walking the dog, and another was waiting for a bus when the fatal shots rang out.
When the man tried to stop him, the attacker fired a shot at him. Three of the four attacked died, the police said to local media.
The shooter apparently chose his victims "very arbitrarily," police chief White said at a press conference.
He later added, "Once again, the people of Detroit are stunned at the senseless eradication of lives in our community. We mourn the victims and pray for those fighting for their lives at this hour.”
The exact background to the killer's motive is still unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
