COMEDY SKETCH WRITING INTENSIVE

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA  – COACHELLA VALLEY REPERTORY CONSERVATORY is offering a COMEDY SKETCH WRITING INTENSIVE Friday-Sunday, September 17-19. The intensive is open to students 18 and older with or without previous writing experience, and places are limited in order to offer the most personalized teacher to student collaboration. Course instructor is DARREN HELD, Creative Director of Held2gether, Improv for Life. The Comedy Sketch Writing Intensive curriculum has been designed to inspire, encourage, and provide effective guidance to anyone who wants to learn how to write a comedic sketch. Writers will learn the fundamentals of strong sketch structure and character driven humor. By the end of this intensive, students will have written five different types of sketches.

DARREN HELD is the Creative Director of Held2gether, Improv for Life, an improv comedy school and performance space in Long Beach. After graduating from New York’s prestigious Stella Adler Conservatory, Held went on to perform in several stage, film, and TV productions on both coasts.  His improv and sketch comedy background includes The Groundlings, Upright Citizens’ Brigade, Second City, and Held2gether.  He has directed hundreds of sketches and improv comedy shows and worked with hundreds of companies utilizing the amazing tools of improv to enhance confidence, communication, and leadership skills. His mission is to empower people from all backgrounds through the power of comedy.

We welcome aspiring beginners and seasoned professionals who want to refresh and reenergize their craft. Our classes are designed to develop and hone skills, while building confidence, and encouraging students to discover their true individual creative voice. The Comedy Sketch Writing Intensive will be held in CVRep’s Black Box rehearsal studio located at 68510 E.
