James David Russell (39) allegedly killed a man and then ate him in parts
WeGoViral Crime:
James David Russell (39) is accused of killing David Flaget (†70) and then partially eating him. Several US media reports are in agreement.
The two men have been in dispute with each other several times before. In early September, the situation escalated, at which point Russell is said to have killed the pensioner. Police found body parts in the 39-year-old's home, a bloodstained microwave, and the suspected murder weapon, a knife.
Russell is currently in custody and must stand trial for murder and cannibalism. The trial should have started in October, but the alleged man-eater was declared unfit to stand trial. So instead, experts prepared a psychological report, the result of which was not publicly communicated.
According to Phillip Stella, this is the first indictment of its kind in Idaho. The police officer called the crime "a slaughter" and "a shock to our conscience." He said the defendant's family had sufficient evidence that the 39-year-old posed a danger to himself and others.
Court documents indicate Russell ate parts of the 70-year-old because, according to his own testimony, he believed it would "cure his brain." James David Russell is scheduled to appear in court again after Christmas, with another hearing set for Dec. 28.
The murder occurred in Clark Fork, a town of 500 people. Idaho has a law that says, "any person who intentionally ingests the flesh or blood of a human being is guilty of cannibalism." The section has been in effect since 1990.
