Severe charges against NFL professional Marcus Maye (29)!
The starting safety of the New Orleans Saints was arrested Thursday on suspicion of aggravated assault with a firearm. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office announced that. The incident reportedly occurred Monday in Metairie, Louisiana.
Lt. Jason Rivarde stated in a release obtained by FOX 8 WVUE, "Maye was identified as the driver of a black SUV involved in an incident where he was accused of pointing a firearm at another vehicle occupied by several female juveniles."
The NFL pro was briefly detained at Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, a jail in Gretna in Los Angeles. However, he was released after posting bail of $30,000). He was not present at the Saints' practice.
Maye's attorney, Eric Hessler, denied the allegations to "NFL Network. "Marcus Maye vehemently denies the allegations stemming from a motor vehicle incident and looks forward to defending himself when all the facts come to light."
Saints coach Dennis Allen, 49, commented on the issue after a practice session, saying, "We learned about it this morning, and we are still gathering all the information. So we're not going to comment on it at this time until we get more information."
Maye was selected by the Jets in the second round of the draft in 2017 before joining the Saints as a free agent this season. He had signed a three-year, $28.5 million contract in March. However, the incident could now face severe consequences before the NFL's disciplinary committee. In February 2021, Maye was already arrested for driving under the influence.
