JTFMax:
... but not "Batgirl," although the film is finished
It would have been the first full-length feature film for HER - HE is allowed to watch it for the second time.
The "Joker" took Hollywood by storm in 2019, picking up two Oscars and eleven nominations. "Batgirl" should finally jump on the successful train of superhero films.
Joaquin Phoenix won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Arthur Fleck in Joker.
But a sequel has been announced for the "Joker," the "Batgirl" film version disappears in the poison cupboard.
As in the first part, Todd Philips (51) will direct the continuation of the "Joker" hit. Joker: Folie à Deux is slated for release in October 2024. According to the industry portal "Deadline," the start of shooting is planned for December.
The director posted a photo of the script on Instagram – and of actor Joaquin Phoenix (47) reading it. So it seems he's also on board as the leading actor in the second part. As Batman's mentally ill adversary, he won an Oscar in 2020.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, singer Lady Gaga (36) is also in talks for a role.
The film title "Folie à Deux" means something like "mental disorder for two." The term describes the assumption of delusions of another person suffering from psychosis.
Batgirl" was filmed - and sawed off
Unfortunately, the train has left for "Batgirl" with actress Leslie Grace (27, "In the Heights") in the title role: Although the film has already been shot, the Warner Bros. Discovery film studio is removing it. From its program! It would have been the first solo film for the superheroine.
Leslie Grace as "Batgirl". The film will not be released - 90 million dollars are gone.
The "Batgirl" directors are appalled: "We are sad and shocked by the news," wrote Adil El Arbi (34) and Bilall Fallah (36) on Instagram on Wednesday. "We still can't believe it."
The directors Adil El Arbi (left) and Bilall Fallah already shot "Bad Boys for Life" together.
They wished that fans worldwide would have had the opportunity to see the film.
Actress Leslie Grace was set to play Batgirl in the superheroine's first solo film.
Lead actress Grace wrote on Instagram that despite the bad news, she was "proud of the love, hard work, and intention that all our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film, which took seven months to shoot in Scotland."
She feels "blessed to have worked under absolute greats and in the process to have formed relationships of a lifetime!"
Despite the star cast - including Michael Keaton (70), who slipped back into the role of "Batman," Oscar winner J. K. Simmons (67), and Brendan Fraser (53) as the villain - the film was sawed off. As a result, it shouldn't even be available on the HBO Max streaming platform.
The reason is unclear - Warner Bros. Discovery has not yet officially commented on the decision. However, a spokesman emphasized that it was not due to the performance of leading actress Grace.
The New York Post, citing Hollywood insiders, reported poor audience test screenings. Then, according to The Wrap, the film "just didn't work." According to other reports, "Batgirl" has become a victim of strategic choices.
This year, media giant WarnerMedia — which owns Hollywood studio Warner Bros. and HBO Max — and Discovery merged to form Warner Bros. Discovery. It is possible that the company now wants to primarily produce cinema films instead of films for the streaming platform. However, Batgirl was initially scheduled to air on HBO Max.
Instead, people continue to bet on the success of sequels – as has been the case with superhero films for years.
