But a sequel has been announced for the "Joker," the "Batgirl" film version disappears in the poison cupboard.

As in the first part, Todd Philips (51) will direct the continuation of the "Joker" hit. Joker: Folie à Deux is slated for release in October 2024. According to the industry portal "Deadline," the start of shooting is planned for December.

The director posted a photo of the script on Instagram – and of actor Joaquin Phoenix (47) reading it. So it seems he's also on board as the leading actor in the second part. As Batman's mentally ill adversary, he won an Oscar in 2020.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, singer Lady Gaga (36) is also in talks for a role.

The film title "Folie à Deux" means something like "mental disorder for two." The term describes the assumption of delusions of another person suffering from psychosis.

The New York Post, citing Hollywood insiders, reported poor audience test screenings. Then, according to The Wrap, the film "just didn't work." According to other reports, "Batgirl" has become a victim of strategic choices.

This year, media giant WarnerMedia — which owns Hollywood studio Warner Bros. and HBO Max — and Discovery merged to form Warner Bros. Discovery. It is possible that the company now wants to primarily produce cinema films instead of films for the streaming platform. However, Batgirl was initially scheduled to air on HBO Max.
