PGA and American Express hosted a media day at the site of the upcoming American Express PGA golf tournament. Approximately 100 media representatives were briefed on changes to the course and updates for spectators. The course features all-new and renovated 18 greens. It was highlighted that the tournament has donated over $66 million to local charities since its inception, with this year's Charity of the Year being the Ophelia Project.
The roster includes the world's top players, such as the PGA's number one and two, alongside other significant names and champions like 2024 Champion Nick Dunlap, Scottie Scheffler, Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau, and Xander Schauffele. Notably, 17-year-old golfer Blades Brown turned pro that day and will participate under a sponsor's exemption, adding excitement to the field.
They take pride in attracting premier golfers to the tournament, which is unique in maintaining a 156-player field. The event continues to use three golf courses and features the largest pro-am. PGA West and LaQuinta Country Club will host the matches. Attendees can look forward to larger tent areas, enhanced viewing spots, upgraded facilities for food and drink vendors, and bigger tents for both current and former veterans. Enhancing the spectator experience is their top priority.
Adding to the excitement are two concerts featuring iconic bands Journey and Little Big Town, scheduled for after the golf events. Following breakfast, the media had the opportunity to play on the immaculate course where professionals will compete in just a few weeks.
