SHREVEPORT KILLER IDENTIFIED: 7 OF THE 8 CHILDREN WERE HIS OWN
Shreveport, Louisiana — New and deeply disturbing details have emerged in the mass killing that left eight children dead, as authorities now confirm the suspect was closely related to the victims — and that most were his own children.

Investigators identified the gunman as 31-year-old Shamar E., who unleashed the deadly attack early Sunday morning inside a residence in Shreveport’s Cedar Grove neighborhood. According to updated findings, seven of the eight children killed were his own, intensifying the horror of what officials are calling one of the most devastating family tragedies in recent memory.
Police say the violence began when the suspect shot the children’s mother. She survived but remains in critical condition, fighting for her life. What followed, authorities say, was a deliberate and sustained act of violence against the children, who ranged in age from about one year old to early teens.
Some of the victims may have attempted to escape during the attack. Officials indicated that evidence suggests children tried to flee through a rear exit, underscoring the panic and chaos inside the home as the shooting unfolded.
Responding officers encountered what one spokesperson described as a “massive and deeply traumatic crime scene,” with evidence stretching across multiple nearby locations. The scale of the tragedy required an extended investigative response as authorities worked to secure and process the area.
After the shootings, the suspect fled, allegedly carjacking a vehicle at gunpoint. Law enforcement tracked him down shortly afterward, leading to a police pursuit that ended when officers shot and killed him.
Shreveport Police spokesman Chris Bordelon confirmed that, while the investigation is ongoing, authorities believe the attack was an isolated domestic incident. The motive remains unclear.
Records show the suspect had a prior arrest in 2019 related to a weapons offense, but officials say there were no documented cases of domestic violence linked to him before this incident.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Shreveport community and beyond, with local leaders struggling to comprehend the scale of loss. Officials described the event as a level of violence rarely seen, even by seasoned first responders.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together what led to the unimaginable sequence of events — while a grieving community begins to confront the aftermath of a crime that defies understanding.
